Advocacy with the Canadian Society for Molecular Biosciences CSMB

The Canadian Society for Molecular Biosciences (CSMB) aims to promote and support research in molecular biosciences across Canada. Its mission is to foster a collaborative scientific community, advocate for increased funding and resources for research, and facilitate the dissemination of knowledge through conferences and publications. CSMB’s advocacy efforts focus on raising awareness of the significance of molecular biosciences in advancing healthcare, biotechnology, and education. They work to influence policy decisions, support young scientists, and ensure that Canadian molecular biosciences research maintains a high standard of excellence and innovation.

2024.- Consulting with leaders in the Health Research community on the Government’s Re-organization of Health Research funding.

Participation in the Parliamentary Health Research Caucus: Exploring the Future of Diabetes Treatment, Management and Prevention Event co-hosted by Diabetes Canada, on April 17, 2024, at the Westin Hotel, Ottawa, Ontario.

Presented the 2023 Research Canada Leadership in Advocacy Awards (LIAA) at a special reception hosted by Senator Mohamed-Iqbal Ravalia. The LIAA honours champions in health research advocacy each year by recognizing at least one individual and/or organization who has made outstanding efforts in advocating for Canadian health research at the local, provincial and/or national level. Virtual meeting with Dr. Brendan Hanley, MP, Yukon on December 12, 2022. Building awareness and support for Research Canada’s pre-budget messages and asks, and more broadly, to build out the relationship between Research Canada and key stakeholders within government. Addressed tri-council funding, implementation of EDI principles in health research and support for talent.
